In a world with a multitude of options for fashion, finding your unique sense of style can be quite challenging. No matter if you wear streetwear, business casual, sporty etc. finding the right fit is an inevitable struggle. Fortunately, bespoke hopes to address this. In this article we will be covering everything there is to know about bespoke tailoring. By understanding what is bespoke you can determine whether or not it may be the right approach for you. With that being said, let’s get started.
What is Bespoke?
Bespoke init of itself is the highest level of making a garment for an individual and for that individual only. Unlike buying clothing off the rack that may not fit, bespoke hopes to provide the perfect fit for every individual. Bespoke takes into account that everyone has a special body posture and different balance that is relative to them. As a result, a bespoke tailor will make the appropriate accommodations in garment creation to come up with the perfect fit for their clients. These accommodations are completely based on the individuals unique physical attributes which in turn, helps to provide a perfect fit.
What is the process of Bespoke?
Although bespoke can be used to create tailored shirts, pants, suits, shoes etc. the process of bespoke comes down to five main stages. These include, the initial consultation, fabric selection, style selection, measurements, and fitting. Let’s take a look at each of these stages in more depth to better understand the bespoke process.
Stage 1 – Initial Consultation
The result of a successful bespoke tailoring experience stems from the initial consultation. When booking your initial consultation a bespoke tailor will take their time to analyze your overall body posture and overall balance. You may be asked to stand in different poses where your posture will be assessed from various angles. This includes, the front, the back as well as the right and left sides. You may also be asked to walk or move in certain ways in order to determine your body’s movement patterns and overall positioning. Understanding the status of your physical posture is critical in order to ensure that your final garment is tailored to perfection.
In addition to postural analysis, an initial consultation also takes into account styling ideas. Customers are free to provide inspiring style ideas they would like their finished product to look like. Having an in depth conversation on which style is best suited is imperative. At the end of the day, bespoke is all about finding the right style relative to each individual. As a result, discussing styling ideas is key in order to ensure that you are left with a garment and finished product that fits you perfectly and makes you feel the utmost level of confidence.
Stage 2 – Fabric Selection
After going through the initial consultation, the next stage is fabric selection. Here you have the option to choose the color and material of your desired fabric that will be used to create your garment. Depending on the item you are purchasing (shirt, shoes, overcoat, suit, etc.) the range of available materials will vary. These fabrics/materials include but are not limited too: cotton, silk, wool, leather etc.
At Isaac Ely Bespoke we offer numerous fabric and color options that you may feel free to choose from. To take a look at our available fabric colors and materials you can take a look at our fabrics page.
Stage 3 – Style Selection
Now that you have selected your fabric and have given your ideas to your tailor, the next step is to find your style. The reality is that no two pieces of clothing are ever the same when it comes to bespoke. When going through the process you may have certain requests. Whether that be an extra button on your suit, a signature pin, an extra pocket, a certain style of overcoat or anything style related, a bespoke tailor can make it happen.
As a result, take advantage of the styling consultation and make sure to communicate your ideas and thoughts clearly to your bespoke tailor in order to ensure that your desired style comes out the way you want it to.
Stage 4 – Measuring Process and Baste Fitting
Now that you have selected your fabric and have clarified the style you would like for your garment, a baste fitting/mould is made for you. Although this is not done for every product, it is a critical component of the bespoke process. The purpose of baste fitting is to ensure that the mould of your garment fits before the final fitting process.
Once you are wearing the mould, your tailoring consultant will reconfirm various measurements and start to pin and chalk for any necessary improvements. This collaborative process is a critical part of the bespoke experience that happens between you and your tailoring consultant. The end goal is to ensure that the right fit and silhouette is achieved. The tailor will then complete the final product, based on the notes made at this fitting.
If no alterations are needed and the fitting goes well, you can be rest assured that you will be receiving your final bespoke product when the final product is fully refined and ready for shipment.
Why is Bespoke for You?
Besides being extremely tailored for your individual physicality and accounting for your personal sense of style, the pros of having a bespoke garment is that it always gives you a sharp and professional look. Even if you are not wearing a suit, the right custom garment that fits and goes well on you, mirrors your sophistication and maturity level. After all, it’s no secret that when you look good, you feel great.
With that being said, bespoke pieces are the best foundation to any style. This is because everyone is unique when it comes to finding the fit and style that works for them. Fortunately with the help of bespoke tailoring you get the opportunity to wear a garment that has been specifically crafted to your individual needs and posture. Not only does this help highlight your positive attributes, but it can also enhance your inner feelings of confidence and help promote positive energy.
